Smag

Oplev resultaterne af Nio Teas ' 4-trins te-smagningsmetode

To evaluate the flavor of the Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea, we look at both the aroma and the way the tea interacts with the palate. We assess elements like dryness, acidity, minerality, sweetness and umami, as well as the texture, or mouthfeel. For sencha teas, we also pay close attention to the vegetal character, as this is one of the signature traits of high-quality Japanese green tea.

Trin 1 - Observation af udseendet

The Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea has a deep green color, with small leaves tightly rolled into fine needle shapes. This compact shape helps the leaves hold their flavor until they slowly open up in the water.

Trin 2 - Vurdering af aromaen

The wet leaves release a fresh and slightly fruity aroma, with notes of freshly cut grass, steamed greens and a soft vegetal sweetness.

Trin 3 - Smagning af teen

This Chiran sencha begins with a gentle sweetness before opening into a bold steamed vegetable flavor. As the tea develops, you may notice a light fruitiness, a hint of cucumber and a clean acidity in the finish.

Trin 4 - Evaluering af fornemmelsen på ganen

Because the Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea is made from a blend of different cultivars, the taste profile is layered and expressive. It starts with a soft sweetness, then moves into stronger vegetal notes. A touch of acidity and minerality appears in the background, but the bold green character remains the dominant impression.

100% økologisk dyrket og etisk fremskaffet

At Nio, we like to work closely with farmers who grow tea without pesticides or chemicals. We believe this approach not only improves the flavor of the tea, but also supports the health of the tea fields and the surrounding ecosystem. Through our farm visits in Japan, we have seen how pesticide-free tea gardens can support strong tea plants while also allowing insects, wild plants and other life to thrive around the fields. Our sourcing process includes careful taste testing, direct communication with the farmers, in-person visits to the tea fields and production facilities, and a close look at the biodiversity surrounding each farm.

JAS-certificeret

At Nio, we are proud to work with tea farmers who focus on organic and pesticide-free cultivation. Some of our teas, including this one, carry the JAS logo, which stands for Japanese Agricultural Standards. This certification confirms that the tea has been grown without pesticides or chemicals, based on strict testing and soil sampling. For larger farmers, we require JAS certification whenever possible. For smaller farmers who may not yet have the resources to complete the certification process, we accept the pesticide-free label when their practices meet our standards for quality and sustainability.

Sådan tilbereder du teen

The Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea can be prepared both hot and cold. Hot brewing brings out its lively vegetal character, while cold brewing highlights a smoother, sweeter side of the tea. Let’s first go through the hot brew method, then we’ll explain how to prepare it as a refreshing cold brew.

  • Trin 1

Heat your water to 60 degrees Celsius, or 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Trin 2

Add 5 grams of Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea to your kyusu teapot or tea strainer.

  • Trin 3

Pour in 150ml of hot water and let the tea leaves brew for 1 minute.

  • Trin 4

After the leaves have finished brewing, pour out the tea completely and enjoy your cup of Chiran green tea.

  • 2. bryg

The first infusion of Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea is flavorful, but the leaves still have plenty to give. You can reinfuse them 2-3 more times using the same water temperature and a shorter brewing time of about 20 seconds. Each infusion will reveal a slightly different side of the tea.

  • Koldbryg

Cold brewing is a great way to make this Chiran green tea smoother and sweeter. Because cold water extracts fewer bitter compounds, the tea becomes lighter, fresher and easier to drink. To cold brew it, add 5 grams of leaves to a pitcher or cup, pour in 150ml of room temperature or chilled water and let it steep for about 3 hours.

Nødvendigt tesæt

To prepare the best cup of Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea, we recommend using a kyusu teapot. A fukamushi-style kyusu works especially well because its circular metal strainer makes it easier to pour fine Japanese green teas without clogging. If the teapot clogs, the leaves may continue brewing too long and become bitter. If you don’t have a kyusu at home, a tea strainer is the next best option. It will separate the leaves from the water as you pour and help stop the infusion so your tea stays clean and balanced.

Information om gården

This tea is produced by Mr. Nuruki, a young and talented tea farmer based in Chiran, in southern Japan. Mr. Nuruki cultivates several tea plant varieties and has developed a strong skill for blending them together. By combining cultivars with different strengths, he creates a sencha that is balanced, flavorful and distinct. The Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea reflects this blending expertise, bringing together sweetness, vegetal depth and a light fruity finish.

Oprindeligt fra Chiran

Japan

As the name suggests, this tea comes from Chiran, a famous tea-producing area in Kagoshima, on the southern part of Kyushu. The region benefits from a warm climate, fertile soils and a long tea-growing tradition, all of which help produce bold, flavorful Japanese green teas.

Kultivar og teplantesort

The Nohana Sencha Chiran Tea is made from a blend of four cultivars: Yabukita, Yutaka Midori, Asanoka and Asatsuyu. Each variety contributes something different to the final cup, from sweetness and umami to bold vegetal notes and a lightly fruity finish.

  • Yabukita

Yabukita is the most widely grown tea plant variety in Japan. It produces a rich savory flavor and strong steamed vegetable notes, making it a reliable base for many Japanese green teas.

  • Yutaka Midori

Yutaka Midori is the second most popular tea plant variety in Japan. Its name means “abundant green,” and it is known for producing powerful, grassy and deeply green flavors.

  • Asanoka

Asanoka often brings a pleasant sweetness, medium umami and a soft cereal-like or starchy note to the tea.

  • Asatsuyu

Asatsuyu is one of the sweetest cultivars used for Japanese green tea. It is sometimes called a “natural gyokuro” because it can produce a smooth, sweet flavor even without long shading.
