In order to provide our customers with the most accurate and comprehensive assessment of the Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea, we conducted a thorough evaluation of both its texture and flavor. This involved a detailed examination of several key factors, including its level of dryness, sweetness, minerality, and acidity. We also made sure to carefully analyze the tea's mouthfeel, taking note of its thickness and richness to ensure a consistent and satisfying drinking experience. Finally, we paid close attention to the tea's vegetal flavor profile, which is a hallmark characteristic of all high-quality matcha varieties. By carefully considering all of these factors, we are confident that our assessment provides an accurate representation of this exceptional tea's unique and nuanced flavor profile.
Step 1 - Observing the Appearance
When it comes to appearance, the Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea is distinguished by its strikingly deep olive green color, which is a testament to the tea's high quality and exceptional flavor profile. To achieve this rich color, the tea undergoes a careful cultivation and processing process, resulting in a powder that is as visually stunning as it is delicious. Furthermore, the tea is sifted to perfection to ensure that each serving is consistent and evenly textured, allowing for a smooth and easy drinking experience that is sure to leave you feeling satisfied and refreshed.
Step 2 - Assessing the Aroma
The aroma of the ceremonial matcha powder is salty and savory with a hint of this vegetal flavor
Step 3 - Tasting the Tea
The Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea starts off strong with a rich smooth flavor and then the vegetal taste soon kicks in. This tea is strong on these vegetal, slightly seaweedy taste notes with a strong umami flavor but it is well balanced by the rich and creamy mouthfeel. There is a tiny hint of dryness in the finish.
Step 4 - Evaluating the sensation on the palate
The tasting structure of the Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea is very smooth and well rounded, but there are some aspects that are able to shine through like the bold savory flavor, light vegetal and citrusy flavors as well as a tiny hint of dryness in the finish.

How to prepare the tea
To prepare the Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea, follow these basic steps for optimal results. While you can simplify this process if you prefer, we recommend following these steps to get the best results from your bowl of matcha.
Step 1
Sift 2 grams of matcha powder into your matcha bowl to remove clumps that form due to exposure to humidity.
Step 2
Heat the water up to 70 degrees Celsius or 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3
Pour about 1 tablespoon of water into the bowl and mix the matcha powder into a paste to ensure even distribution of the powder. Then, pour in 100ml of water in the bowl.
Step 4
Gently scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl to combine the matcha into the water.
Step 5
Using your wrist, whisk the matcha up in rapid zigzag motions until a light green foam appears on top.
To ensure that you're making the most out of your Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea, it's important to use the right utensils. Here's a closer look at each one:
Matcha Bowl: The matcha bowl, or "chawan," should be wide and shallow, allowing you to easily whisk the matcha powder and water into a frothy texture. The ideal matcha bowl is made of ceramic or porcelain to help retain heat.
Bamboo Whisk: The bamboo whisk, or "chasen," is a key tool for creating the perfect texture in your matcha. The fine tines of the whisk help to create a smooth and frothy texture, giving the tea its characteristic velvety mouthfeel.
Chashaku: The chashaku, or bamboo scoop, is used to measure out the perfect amount of matcha powder for each cup. It's important to use the correct amount of matcha to ensure that you get the full flavor and depth of the tea.
Sifter: A small sieve or "furui" is used to sift the matcha powder before whisking it with water. This helps to remove any clumps or impurities, creating a smooth and even texture.
The Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea is produced by the Nakai family. Mr. Nakai’s father is one of the people credited with the JAS logo, which is now affixed to the labels of every organic certified tea in Japan. This just shows you the long history the Nakai family has when it comes to producing Japanese green teas without pesticides or chemicals.
Sourced in Kyoto
Japan
The Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea is produced outside of Kyoto, an area that has a long history of tea cultivation. The first tea plants grown in Japan were planted not too far from here in 1192 and the region still is amongst the most famous when it comes to the cultivation of Japanese green tea.
The area is particularly well-known for it’s matcha. After tasting hundreds of matcha teas from all over Japan, Kyoto and Uji are the regions best represented. This area has been the hotbed for matcha cultivation for the last 400 years and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down!
Cultivar and tea plant variety
The Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea is made from the Okumidori cultivar. Based on customer feedback, this has been the most popular cultivar for matcha at Nio Teas.
Okumidori
The Okumidori tea variety is renowned for producing smoother and fuller-bodied teas. It is frequently blended with other teas to mellow out any bitterness, but sometimes it is used on its own. Although it is harder to produce, Okumidori is well worth it when it comes to creating teas like the Washimine Ceremonial Matcha Tea that don’t have any bitterness in the finish.

The powder is a bright, beautiful green with a classic, fresh matcha aroma. The flavor is wonderfully intense with a deep, rich umami hit that cuts through milk effortlessly.
Truly a high-quality ceremonial matcha and such a wonderful treat to myself!
I was little nervous as always when I try new matcha brands. First the smell was rich I sweetness and yeah it was fantastic. Tried many different matcha brands over the past 10 years and yeah this is a keeper.
Gorgeous vibrant green. Medium bodied Okumidori cultivar and it has nice umami. Nio Teas just continues to impress me. This one and the Oishi Saemidori Ceremonial are so delicious
Prior to ordering Noi Teas Ceremonial Match - I have only had Matcha (as a latte at a big chain coffee store - not good). I was very skeptical and intimidated about making it and what it would taste like. I enjoyed the Match Master Class book! I also made it plain, no sweetener and no milk. I enjoyed it very much and drink a hot Match almost every day. I will be ordering it again. Thanks for the book and the great Washimine Ceremonial Match Tea
Love this matcha! The umami flavor makes it such a yummy ceremonial matcha. It’s not really bitter or grassy which is lovely. It foams up perfectly every time. It has sweet notes. It’s perfect for starting my morning right!
Truly premium matcha — rich, elegant, and exceptionally smooth. I discovered it last year and haven’t looked back since. The flavor is naturally creamy and balanced, with no need for sugar, syrups, or sweeteners. It’s perfect both hot and cold, though I personally love it chilled. For a flawless cup, whisk it properly with a bamboo whisk to avoid clumps, and follow the 30-20-10 method. Want the purest experience? Enjoy it with just water. It’s matcha at its finest.
I bought it for the umami profile and it didn't disappoint on that part.... though I must say that it wasn't as sweet and did have a fair astringency... the umami could've been complemented by a more subtle and sweet profile. Though I appreciate the rate for 120/40grams (dhs, including both shipping and discount code of 15%) , I got another matcha after this one finished from shizowoka prefecture . It was cheaper and honestly not too different. Maybe my critique would be the price not the the flavour as I got what I told( not what I was expecting)... though I think even for matcha enthusiasts like me, better clarification of taste is always welcome (not just the dimensions of the matcha but all of it as a whole). Overall I appreciated the matcha but I give some critique to its price tag though its very fair for a 40 gram can. Lovely dealing with you and hope to see better matchas soon.
It is my bundle of joy I wake up to every morning. Love the most delicate texture and flavor your tea provides.
It was worth the wait. It was my first purchase andI will for sure be ordering it again soon
This is my first time ordering matcha from you, and it looks amazing! The taste is of very high quality. I always make an Americano matcha—just matcha with water and a little vanilla syrup—and it turns out delicious. I also make it with milk for my siblings, and they love it, but I personally prefer it with water.
Very soon, I will be making videos and sending them to you on Instagram, as soon as I find a good filming spot. This won’t be the last time I order from you! As soon as my matcha stock runs out, I will order again because it’s the best quality matcha I’ve ever tried.
I have tried many types of matcha, whether by purchasing matcha powder or ordering it from coffee shops in Kuwait, and your matcha powder is by far the best quality I have ever had!
Before I sit on my desk every morning, I must drink tea, always! It is also one of the things that brings me great joy outside of work: to drink tea, learn about tea, try new teas! Even my perfumes are reminiscent of tea! I don't have a lot of people to talk teas with, so may this post find kindred spirits! My favourites are matcha and genmaicha. The taste of the washimine is just the right amount of umami and light sweetness, which is not easy to find in organic matchas! it's one of those teas that hits the spot just right on the first sip and has a lovely nutty, sweet, powdery smell when you open the can 🫠 If you are a latte fan (personally I prefer just tea), this is a great option because its strong umami flavour and thickness will blend so nicely with your chosen veg/dairy milk, making it super creamy.
Good crema, excellent texture to the powder and to the finished brew. Nicely sweet, though I was hoping for a more umami character than it has. I will say that the Nioteas flavor profile graphic is always reliable in its description of their products.
