Scopri i risultati del metodo di degustazione del tè in 4 fasi di Nio Teas

When evaluating the Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026, we look beyond simple tasting notes. We study the aroma, the first impression on the palate and the way the tea develops through sweetness, umami, minerality, acidity and dryness. We also pay close attention to the texture, or mouthfeel. Because this is a shincha-style sencha, we also examine its vegetal profile, freshness and spring-like intensity, which are key markers of high-quality first-harvest Japanese green tea.

Passaggio 1: osservare l'aspetto

The Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026 has a vivid light-green appearance, with young sencha leaves gently dusted in matcha powder for a brighter color and a more textured infusion.

Passaggio 2: valutazione dell'aroma

The dry leaves release a lively fruity fragrance that becomes deeper and more vegetal once the tea is infused. As the leaves open, you can notice a fresh steamed greens aroma with a soft spring sweetness.

Passaggio 3: degustazione del tè

The Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026 opens with a rounded sweetness and a bright, fresh character before moving into a strong steamed vegetable flavor and a rich umami core. The finish is clean and slightly tangy, with very little dryness and a smooth lingering freshness.

Passaggio 4 - Valutazione della sensazione al palato

The mouthfeel of this tea is full and silky thanks to the matcha powder, but it still keeps the light, refreshing energy of a first-harvest shincha. You get a soft minerality, a gentle acidity and a deep umami presence, followed by a mild sweetness that fades slowly on the palate.

100% coltivato biologicamente e di provenienza etica

At Nio, we choose to work with tea farmers who avoid pesticides and unnecessary chemicals in the field. We believe this approach protects both the taste of the tea and the long-term health of the tea gardens. In our experience visiting tea farms across Japan, fields cultivated with these cleaner methods often produce stronger tea plants while supporting a more balanced ecosystem around them. Our sourcing process is built around four main steps. First, we taste each tea carefully to understand its flavor, texture and overall quality. Then, we speak directly with the farmers to learn how the tea is grown, harvested and processed. We also visit the farms in person whenever possible to inspect the fields, production facilities and overall care given to the plants. Finally, we look at the surrounding environment to make sure the tea fields are not isolated from nature, but part of a living ecosystem where plants, insects and wildlife can thrive.

Certificato JAS

At Nio, we value transparency when it comes to how our teas are grown. Some of the teas we source carry the JAS logo, which stands for Japanese Agriculture Standards. This certification confirms that the tea has been produced without pesticides or chemicals according to strict Japanese regulations. For larger tea producers, we ask for this certification because it requires detailed soil testing and regular controls. For smaller farmers who may not yet have the resources to obtain official certification, we may accept a pesticide-free label if their growing methods match our quality standards. This allows us to support talented small producers while still staying true to our commitment to clean and sustainable tea.

Come preparare il tè

Although the Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026 was created with cold brewing in mind, it can also be prepared beautifully as a hot tea. We’ll first show you how to brew it hot to bring out its fresh umami, and then we’ll explain how to prepare it as a smooth and refreshing cold brew.

  • Passo 1

Heat your water to 60 degrees Celsius or 140 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the tea’s sweetness and fresh spring flavor.

  • Passo 2

Add 5 grams of Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026 to your kyusu teapot or tea strainer.

  • Passaggio 3

Pour 150ml of hot water over the leaves and let them steep for 1 minute.

  • Passaggio 4

Once the infusion is ready, pour out the tea completely and enjoy your fresh cup of Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026.

  • Seconda infusione

The matcha powder will mostly release during the first infusion, but the shincha leaves still have plenty to give. You can brew the same leaves 2 to 3 more times using the same water temperature and a shorter brewing time of about 20 seconds for each infusion. Each brew will become lighter, cleaner and more refreshing.

    Infusione fredda

Cold brewing is one of the best ways to enjoy this tea because it extracts less bitterness and brings out a smoother, sweeter profile. Add 5 grams of Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026 to a pitcher or cup, pour in 150ml of room-temperature or chilled water and let it infuse for 3 hours. When you return, you’ll have a cool, cloudy and refreshing green tea with a vibrant spring character.

Servizio da tè necessario

To prepare a clean cup of Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026, we recommend using a kyusu teapot. The round mesh filter makes it easier to separate the fine leaves and matcha powder while pouring, helping you avoid clogging and overbrewing. This is especially useful for teas with smaller leaf particles. If you don’t have a kyusu at home, a tea strainer can also work. It won’t give the leaves quite as much room to open, but it will still help separate them from the infusion and make the tea easy to enjoy.

Luogo di produzione e coltivatore

Informazioni sull'azienda agricola

This tea is produced by Mr. Nuruki, a skilled young tea farmer based in Chiran, Kagoshima. His small farm in southern Japan allows him to work with different tea plant varieties and carefully combine them into balanced blends. For the Shincha Shizuku Chiran 2026, the first-harvest leaves bring extra freshness, brightness and smoothness, while the matcha powder adds body, color and a soft umami depth.

Proveniente da Chiran, Kagoshima

Giappone

This tea is grown in Chiran, a small town in Kagoshima located near the southern tip of Kyushu. The region benefits from a warm climate, fertile volcanic soils and generations of tea expertise, making it one of Japan’s most important areas for producing fresh, vibrant green tea.

Cultivar e varietà di pianta del tè

This tea is made from a blend of four Japanese tea cultivars: Yabukita, Asatsuyu, Asanoka and Yutaka Midori. Together, they create a cup that balances freshness, sweetness, umami and a strong green character.

  • Yabukita

Yabukita is the most common tea cultivar in Japan. It is known for its bold grassy flavor, clear vegetal profile and strong umami structure.

  • Asatsuyu

Asatsuyu means “clear green” and is appreciated for producing smooth, naturally sweet green teas, even when the plants are not shaded before harvest.

  • Asanoka

Asanoka is known for adding pleasant sweetness, medium umami and a soft cereal-like or starchy note to the cup, making it useful in balanced tea blends.

  • Yutaka Midori

Yutaka Midori is Japan’s second most widely grown tea cultivar. Its name means “abundant green,” a fitting reference to the deep color and powerful steamed vegetable flavor it can bring to Japanese green teas.
